The Alberni Valley has lots to offer and of course we're on the way to Tofino, why not stop, have lunch, enjoy some of the many reasons to stay and play here.

Your drive to Tofino and the west coast of Vancouver Island is spectacular from the very moment you make that turn onto Highway 4 . You'll meander along Cameron Lake and soon thereafter discover the majestic forest known as Cathedral Grove within the Macmillan Provincial Park. We encourage you to stop, ask some questions of our Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors (in season) and then walk the trails along centuries old-growth trees. When you leave the park you'll soon climb our famous 'Hump' that will inevitably bring you to the stunning beauty of the Alberni Valley.

The city of Port Alberni and the surrounding areas of Sproat Lake, Beaufort, Cherry Creek and Beaver Creek combine to bring you many incredible reasons to stop and discover. Visit our working McLean Mill, Canada's only Steam operated sawmill and hop on the historic steam train during one of its many tours through the valley with seasonal service to / from the Harbour Quay near Port Alberni's lovely waterfront.

Port Alberni offers an abundance of well-maintained trails for the casual to avid hiker, biker and motocross enthusiast. Other days can be dedicated to the discovery of the Arts District including the Rollin Art Centre, Live Theatre courtesy of the Portal Players Dramatic Society or, venture in to our Maritime Discovery Museum and Lighthouse, The Alberni Valley Museum or the shops and services throughout the Harbour Quay and Victoria Quay districts. A walk along our new pier is an absolute must see and do!

Our many tourism operators feature other fantastic aspects of the Alberni Valley including of course the Alberni Inlet featuring 35 plus kilometers of world renowned fishing opportunities with some of the best Salmon fishing one can find, anywhere on the planet. Or, take the Francis Barkley on a tour of the inlet to the quaint village of Bamfield or to the community of Ucluelet on the West Coast of the Island. The Francis Barkley also stops at Sechart Lodge in the Broken Islands a wonderful place for kayaking and marine life viewing.

Port Alberni boasts of the highest waterfall in Canada at nearby Della Falls near the far end of Great Central Lake. A bit of a trek to get there, an awesome experience throughout the trek. Consider it; you won’t be disappointed. Or, hike Mt. Arrowsmith, swim the Paper Mill Dam Park, visit Stamp Falls, Camp, Waterski, Wakeboard at Sproat Lake.
